Do you have The OC song stuck in your head now? No, just me? Ohh, okay.
Way back before the summer even started, April and I decided we wanted to take a trip down to Southern California. We both have family down there who we wanted to visit and it was our first big road trip to take together. Our trip was about 3 weeks ago.
Our departure time was 6am on a Sunday. We left a little late because my dear friend couldn't find her Triple A card and didn't fill up with gas. Eventually we were on the road with myself behind the wheel and April as our DJ.
Our descent down the Siskiyous into California was gorgeous before 7am.
My DJ snapped this picture going over Lake Shasta. Two members of my family, who shall remain nameless, are terrified of bridges. Which makes it hilarious for the rest of us.
Our first destination was Ventura to visit the fabulous Mrs. Wookie. We cooked dinner and had drinks and just hung out after our long day of driving. Monday morning we got up and ready to head out for our first full day of vacation.
We went to Pete's Breakfast House which was on Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives. It was SO good! I got a cheese and avocado omelet which came with a homemade biscuit and jam. It was bomb.
After breakfast, we went to the mall and spent too much money. In the afternoon we traveled with Mrs. Wookie to Ojai and went wine tasting. After going to 3 wineries, needless to say, I was feeling pretty good. That is probably the reason why I spent way too much money on wine.
I was hoping to spot Reese Witherspoon in Ojai, but alas, no such luck.
Tuesday morning we packed our stuff and headed down the 101 to visit Middle Sister! We got caught in traffic (of course) but eventually made it. Middle Sister and BIL live close to the beach and the weather was amazing! That day, we just went to lunch, IKEA, and out for $1.50 taco night at their favorite place. Pork barbacoa= yum!
Wednesday, we got up bright and early to head to Knott's Berry Farm. We were able to get free tickets (score!) through BIL's family. Middle Sister accompanied us.
Here we are with Snoopy.
I didn't grow up going to theme parks, and it turns out, they are SO not my jam. Some of the rides were fun but I just ended up sick. Boo!
April and I were SO excited to finally try Chick-Fil-A and it did not disappoint. We don't have many at all out here on the West Coast so it was a nice treat. I knew that the employees said "my pleasure" when you say thank you so I may have said it more than usual just so I could hear it. So fun!
We headed to San Diego Wednesday night and it was nice to finally drive at night. We made it to her Aunt's house relatively stress free except for the part where we ran into a toll road and almost had to just drive through but finally found our cash.
We were greeted by April's aunt (who I started just calling Auntie myself) and her cousin, Mia. They are the nicest and most welcoming people I've ever met and hugged me like they've know me forever!
And we can't forget who else greeted us but adorable Keizer! He's a Rottweiler and looks terrifying but is such a gentle giant.
There's the first part of our trip. I have to post in sections otherwise it would be the longest post in the world. I'll pick up where I left off, which was Thursday morning, tomorrow!
Have a great night and I hope you had a great Tuesday!
