I'm super excited about this post. I'm taking inspiration from Jamie's post about my cute little college town that I love. Jamie lives in Athens, Georgia, is about to graduate from UGA, and loves her town! So here is my town of Corvallis, Oregon!
This week is all about our favorite bars and restaurants. That is just one thing I love about Corvallis. We have so many places that brew their own beer and have awesome homemade food.
Block 15: One of the best things about this bar is that they make a seasonal fruit ale beer. Strawberry, marionberry, and blueberry are some of the flavors I've had. Another one of Block 15's specialties are their beer-battered fries. They are OUT OF THIS WORLD. The restaurant does a good job at transferring into a bar after 10pm but you're still able to order the whole menu. This place is definitely casual and laid back fun.
Flat Tail is another laid back place. Their name is derived from our mascot, the beavers. They have good beer and even better food. They are located down on the waterfront so when the weather is nice, it's so fun to sit outside. One of my favorite beers they have is sour beer. I can't remember what it's called but it's so good. Helpful, huh?
Clodfelter's is located right across from campus on Monroe. It gets pretty busy on weekend nights because it is in such a good, central location. Every Wednesday night is "pint night" where they feature a different beer every week and you get to keep the glass! Again, Clod's is super low key and is fun on the weekends. They also have syringe jello shots!
McMenamins: A Corvallis favorite that is also located on Monroe Street, the next block up from Clod's. They are famous for their Ruby beer and cajun spicy tots. The best thing to do after class on any day of the week is head to McMenamins, order both of those things, and get a little buzz on. It becomes a cool hang out at night, but nothing fancy. There are pool tables upstairs and it is just a cool place to chill with friends.
Big River is also on the waterfront, just a few blocks from Flat Tail. They have a really ecletic menu and good pizza. Also, I've never met a wine there that I didn't love. They are passionate about using local products and ingredients whenever possible. My dad and I just went there last week and we discovered that if you buy a 16 oz Guinness, you get to keep the glass!
That is just a little glimpse into my college town. There are plenty more restaurants and bars but those are definitely the most popular. We here at Oregon State like to keep it casual and low key but fun!
Go Beavs!
